Dr. Stephen R. Cheshier has an ideal background to author this text. His distinguished 35-year career in engineering technology includes 10 years on the faculty of Electrical Engineering Technology at Purdue University, serving six years as head of the department, and seventeen years as president of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia. He is currently Institute Professor and President Emeritus of that institution. Dr. Cheshier has served as Chair of the Engineering Technology Council and as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). In 1980, he was the first recipient of the National Distinguished Service Award from Tau Alpha Pi, the Engineering Technology Honor Society, and he received the ASEE 1984 James H. McGraw Award as Engineering Technology Educator of the Year.
